Privacy Policy

Driftless is built on a simple promise: your data is yours. Here's exactly what we do — and don't — do with it.

📅 Last updated: April 2026
🔖 Applies to: Driftless Chrome Extension
✦  The short version
No data collected
No accounts required
No servers or uploads
No ads or tracking
Everything stays on your device
📦

What Data We Collect

Driftless collects no personal data whatsoever. We do not collect your name, email address, IP address, location, browsing history, or any other personally identifiable information.

The extension stores the following data locally on your device only — in Chrome's built-in storage — and it never leaves your browser:

Your blocklist, focus session history, daily streaks, productivity statistics, schedule settings, session intentions, and preferences such as dark mode and session duration.

🚫

What We Don't Do

We do not upload, sell, share, rent, or transmit any data to any server, third party, advertiser, or analytics provider — ever. There is no Driftless account, no cloud sync, and no backend. The extension has no server to send data to.

We do not use cookies, tracking pixels, fingerprinting, or any other tracking technology.

🔑

Permissions & Why We Need Them

Driftless requests only the permissions necessary to deliver its features. Here's exactly what each one does:

storage Saves your blocklist, session history, streaks, and preferences locally on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere.
tabs Detects when you navigate to a blocked site during a focus session so the block screen can be shown. Also used to redirect you back when you click "Take me back."
scripting Injects scripts into YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Snapchat to surgically hide Shorts, Reels, and FYP feeds — without blocking the entire site.
notifications Sends you a local alert when a focus session ends or a break begins — even when the popup is closed. Notifications are purely local and never sent to a server.
alarms Powers the Pomodoro timer by triggering session start, session end, break reminders, and scheduled blocking windows at the times you configure.
declarativeNetRequest Blocks distracting websites at the browser level during active focus sessions using Chrome's native API — ensuring blocks cannot be bypassed by the page itself.
host permissions Required to inject the scroll-removal scripts into specific social media sites. Only the sites listed in the Infinite Scroll Removal feature are targeted.
🌐

Third-Party Services

Driftless does not integrate with, communicate with, or send data to any third-party service, analytics platform, or advertising network.

If the extension displays motivational quotes, these are either bundled statically within the extension package or fetched from a developer-controlled, read-only endpoint. No user data is transmitted in these requests.

👤

Children's Privacy

Driftless does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since we collect no data at all, this extension is safe for users of all ages.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever update this privacy policy — for example, if a future version introduces optional cloud sync or new features — we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and note the changes clearly.

We will never introduce data collection practices without updating this policy and being transparent with our users.
